SFI WORKSHOP “Autophagy and immunity”

In collaboration with Club Francophone de l’Autophagie (CFATG)

Institut Pasteur de Lille - Institut de Biologie - 1, rue du Professeur Calmette - 59019 Lille

Local organization committee:
Mathias Chamaillard, Corrine Grangette, Frank Lafont and Joël Pestel - Lille (FR)

This year, the SFI workshop will be focused on the growing interest on the regulation of innate and adaptive immunity by autophagy. Leading specialists in area of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, immunology and microbial pathogenesis will present and discuss the most cutting edge breakthroughs on adaptive cellular mechanisms in which autophagy is involved.

After a basic update on autophagy and the current open questions investigated in the field by Frank Lafont, some issues on autophagy in immunity-related mechanisms will be discussed. Mathias Faure will review how pathogens are potent inducers of autophagy in the context of xenophagy to protect against infection but also how invasive viruses and bacteria have evolved ways of subverting this pathway. Some emerging roles of autophagy in the MHCII presentation will be discussed by the Keynote speaker, Christian Münz, and by Philippe Pierre. The role of autophagy during tumorigenesis will be tackled by Béatrice Romagnolo. Finally, Hélène Duez will cover the role of autophagy on muscle physiology.

A practical session around the themes of quantitative detection of LC3 dots by high-throughput imaging flux cytometry and of posttranslational modification proteomics analysis will be organized to illustrate new technical ways to evaluate autophagy impacts.
