Microbial alliances and conflicts: Unravelling the dynamics of polymicrobial infections

Polymicrobial infections represent a growing frontier in microbiology, medicine, and immunology, challenging traditional paradigms of single-pathogen research. These infections arise from the intricate interactions between diverse microbial species, including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and archaea, within shared host environments. The collective behavior of these microbial communities profoundly impacts infection severity, antibiotic resistance, and treatment outcomes, often complicating clinical management and driving the need for innovative therapeutic strategies.
This session aims to bridge disciplines and foster collaboration among researchers and clinicians to unravel the complexities of polymicrobial interactions. By exploring cutting-edge discoveries in microbial communication, competition, and cooperation, as well as host-pathogen dynamics, the session will illuminate how these relationships influence disease progression and resolution. Featuring keynote addresses by a leading expert and a selection of short talks from submitted abstracts, the session will offer a platform for sharing novel insights and technologies. It will advance our understanding of polymicrobial infections and inspire strategies to mitigate their impact on global health, at the forefront of microbiology and medicine.

SP9 - Microbiologie clinique

Pneumopathies typiques et atypiques : une recrudescence à couper le souffle !

Spécificité locale : CNR des IST bactériennes et chlamydia/mycoplasmes.
Après une épidémie historique d'infections à Mycoplasma pneumoniae en hiver 2023-2024, nous avons assisté à une recrudescence en 2024-2025 des infections à Chlamydia pneumoniae ainsi qu'à pneumocoque avec des tableaux parfois inhabituels. Cette session s'intéresse à tous les aspects récents des pneumopathies typiques ou atypiques d'origine virale, bactérienne ou fongique.

SP10 - Microbiologie des aliments

La sécurité microbiologique des aliments dans le contexte du « One Health »

Dans cette session pourront être soumis tous travaux relatifs aux agents à l’origine de maladies infectieuses, toxiniques et infestations transmises par les aliments, l’antibiorésistance, ainsi que l’impact du changement climatique sur les dangers biologiques. Les aliments contaminés par des agents pathogènes restent une cause majeure de transmission de nombreuses maladies zoonotiques. Le contrôle de notre système alimentaire doit, désormais, se dérouler dans une approche One Health, une seule santé pour les animaux, l’Homme et l’environnement. Pour assurer ce contrôle, il est indispensable d’agir au niveau de toutes les étapes de la chaine alimentaire et de comprendre les interactions entre les agents pathogènes et la complexité des systèmes et matrices qu’ils rencontrent.

Monitoring antibiotic effects on bacteria at the cellular level

The anti-infectious efficiency of a drug is a combination of its capacity to enter in the bacteria, to not be expelled out of the cell, to its affinity for its target, and its local concentration. In this session will be presented the bacterial response mechanisms at the scale of the whole cell, studied using different approaches (imaging, cytometry, swarming,…).
