Welcome to ASIC 2025
Dear Colleagues,
The 30th ASIC Conference on Coffee Science is now planned to be held 27 to 31 October 2025 in Lisbon (Portugal).
ASIC (Association for the Science and Information on Coffee) has been existing for 57 years and is regularly organizing conferences on coffee science, most often every second year, trying to alternate between coffee producing and consuming countries.
I would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank, on behalf of ASIC and the scientific community working on coffee, Portugal that has accepted to organize this 30th conference.
Portugal has a longstanding historical global presence in the coffee sector. Holding a strong position in cooperation networking, it led to significant contributions to the international coffee community through its extensive research of coffee leaf rust (CLR), a challenging disease for Arabica coffee growers. The Timor hybrid, the most valuable source of resistance to CLR, was discovered, characterized, and provided by a research center in Portugal to different coffee-growing countries. This seminal work represented one of the major breakthroughs for coffee breeding, giving rise to the vast majority of the Arabica coffee varieties cultivated worldwide. Portugal stands as an important scientific liaison bridging the community for working together ‘towards more sustainable coffee’.
This conference represents a unique opportunity to gather specialists from all over the world working on different aspects of coffee science and technology. During the conference, all possible aspects of coffee science will be developed and the participants will be able to hear and share novelties on the different following topics:
- Agronomy (genetics, genomics, botany, agrotechnology, pests and diseases, sustainability, agroecology, impact of climate change, etc.);
- Chemistry (coffee analysis, chemical composition, aroma, etc.);
- Technology (green coffee processing, roasting, grinding, extraction, decaffeination, etc.);
- Health Impact (coffee consumption and health effects).
As the President of ASIC, I am cordially inviting all scientists working in the field of coffee and interested in sharing their research results to participate to this Conference either on site or from remote locations. Do not forget to add to your agenda the next 30th ASIC Conference that will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 27 to 31 October 2025 and will allow taking advantage of all the nice meeting and learning opportunities offered by the event. We will be very happy to welcome you in Lisbon next year.
Astrid NEHLIG, President of ASIC
